APPROXIMATELY 70 boats with flags and bunting flying took part in a parade of sail to mark the 50th anniversary of East Down Yacht Club, outside Killyleagh, recently.

The parade was led by a Viking ship, manned by Vikings in traditional clothes.  The Vikings had set up camp for the weekend in the grounds of the club, demonstrating their skills and fighting ability with a mock battle.

The other on-the-water activities included kayak water polo, jousting over the water and jetty jumping for young people and adults who have not yet grown up.

The fancy dress competition of either Vikings or Pirates, was judged by the Viking leader.

East Down Yacht Club is continuing their year of celebrations with the annual regatta on Saturday, August 4, followed by a barbecue and band in the evening.
