Dundrum through the lens from yesteryear

Dundrum through the lens from yesteryear

20 March 2019

A UNIQUE opportunity to get a glimpse of life in Dundrum many years ago is available in the village this weekend.

This Saturday, the Dundrum Voices oral history group is displaying a stunning selection of old photographs and playing some recorded memories about people’s working lives of the past.

Residents have been recorded reminiscing about the work at the harbour, the railway and village station, helping with the harvest and much more.

While many of these jobs are long gone, they are living history for Dundrum’s older residents.

A compilation of their memories will be broadcast at 11.30am and again at 2.30pm this Saturday in the village’s Parish Centre in Main Street.

The photographs are from the Down County Museum’s DJ McNeill Collection with others on display kindly lent by local people. They will be on display between 11am and 4pm.

Saturday’s event, which is free, is being supported by Newry Mourne and Down Council. Further information is available by emailing dundrumvoices@gmail.com.
