Drumaness festival may make a return in summer

23 January 2013

ONE of Down District’s most popular village festivals may be making a comeback.

For many years the annual summer festival in Drumaness was one of the community highlights of the year, offering events for all ages and involving people from throughout the area.

Like so many village festivals, a shortage of people to help with organisations, saw the demise of the festival but now a new group is planning to revive the event.

Drumaness Events Group consists of representatives from several clubs in the village and is presently being facilitated by Lise Curran of County Down Rural Network. The group was set up after a Community Safety Action Plan highlighted the need for more village events.

Positive community feedback about past festivals in the recent survey has encouraged the group to consider holding a two-day festival in the summer.

Drumaness Events Group is now calling for more groups and volunteers to come on board to help either with advice or to just assist with the running of activities.

Anyone interested in giving some time, no matter how little, should come along to the group’s next meeting on Wednesday, January 30, at 7pm in the Dan Rice Hall. Everyone be will be made most welcome.
