Downpatrick solicitors donating fees to charity

6 January 2021

A DOWNPATRICK legal firm has joined forces with Northern Ireland Chest, Heart and Stroke to encourage people to take steps and start planning for their future.

During January, Murlands Solicitors are waiving their fee for will-writing services with clients and, instead, donating to support the charity as it strives to help get local people back on their feet and help rebuild their lives.

Murlands will be taking part in the wider ‘Will You?’ campaign, that will see a host of legal practitioners donate their fee to help the charity rebuild lives today through its extensive care services and tomorrow through its life-saving research and health promotion and prevention services.

With people pledging commitments to New Year resolutions, now’s the perfect time to take the necessary steps and plan for the future.

However, research shows that nearly 80% of people in Northern Ireland have not made a will and the province has the highest rates in the UK of people dying without having left a will.

Murlands are encouraging local people to meet with their team to provide peace of mind and help avoid any future stress for families at a very difficult time.

John O’Prey, a partner at Murlands, said: “We are proud to be involved in the Will You? Campaign after the success of the first ever campaign last year.

“It is very important for people to create a will along with making sure their will is kept up to date after any major life events such as getting married or buying a house.

“This year has been difficult for everyone across Northern Ireland and now, more than ever, it is important to make a will.

“We are calling on people to combine using our services to make or update their will, with supporting a very deserving local charity through these difficult times.”

Jackie Trainor, Director of Income Generation at Northern

Ireland Chest, Heart and Stroke, said: “We are so pleased Murlands has come on board with us again as we strive to help get local people at risk of and living with chest, heart and stroke conditions get back on their feet after what has been an extremely difficult nine-plus months.

“As we start 2021, the charity passion for rebuilding local lives through our ground-breaking research into better treatments, care and prevention is stronger than ever.”

Jackie continued: “The donation of the £100 fee will pay for our care team to run a six week online programme to support and empower six people living with life-long chest heart and stroke conditions rebuild their lives.”

“It’s important to remember your will is not only about the future — it can make a real difference now to the thousands of people living with chest, heart and stroke conditions living in Downpatrick and the surrounding area.”
