Donard Park great venue in cyclocross

14 November 2018

SHIMNA Wheelers Cycling Club played host to the seventh round of the Ulster Cyclocross League

at Donard Park, Newcastle, on Sunday.

This was the third time Shimna Wheelers have held this event and it brought a good crowd to Newcastle after the summer season had long gone. The weather played its part in a fantastic day of racing from U-6 right through to over 60s in the main races.

Over 300 riders travelled from all over Ireland to participate and there was even one rider from England — jockey Ray Cochrane, who came home to challenge his brother Ian, from Banbridge CC, in the B Race.

On the Wheelers front, there was another great performance from young Skye Spence, who finished third in the girls’ U- 10 race after a transatlantic flight the day before. Deon McNeilly had a good ride in the A race and David Torney and Alex McMath enjoyed the craic in the B race.

The club wishes to thank its sponsors, Mourne Cycles, AJC Electrical, TS Foods, Poundworld and Dale Farm, and club members who gave up their Sunday to allow the event to run smoothly.

Club members are asked to meet at Tollymore National Outdoor Centre on Sunday from 12.30-1.30pm for tea/coffee after the morning cycle.

If your not able to make a club spin please feel free to attend  Tollymore National Outdoor Centre and enjoy the banter.
