Curtain comes down on Killyleagh League

A PARTY night and presentation evening has been held to mark the end of another highly successful season of the Killyleagh Summer League.

The Bridge Centre was the venue on Friday night for an awards evening for all the boys and girls of primary school age who took part, from the league kicked off in May.

The special guest of honour was Seamus Heath, the grassroots development officer for the IFA in the area. He helped hand over the awards along with two of the coaches, Lana Connolly and Darren McIlwrath.

League chairman Chris Hagan thanked parents and grandparents for bringing along and supporting the boys and girls for what had been another memorable season which had seen matches played across five pitches for the first time every week since the league kicked off in May.

This year has seen the league produce its third full Northern Ireland international player, Trevor Carson, who made his debut in goal against South Korea in May.

Trophies were presented to every participant in the four different age groups.

Gifts were also presented to Patricia Hamilton, Lana Connolly, Darren McIlwrath and Michelle Hagan for their work.

Thanks are extended to Henderson’s Spar, Killyleagh, who helped sponsor the evening, and to Joe and Edith Ringland’s Killyleagh dancing class for their financial support.

The league also appreciates the work of the ground staff of Newry, Mourne and Down Council to prepare the pitches at the Bridge Centre each week, the staff of the Bridge Centre and David Ross who erects the nets each night.

Thanks also to Mervyn Love, Dee Murray, Karen Peters, Clifford Healy and Orla McComb who helped referee games.

The league will kick off again next May. Parents are asked to upload pictures or video from the night, of their children to the Killyleagh Summer League Facebook page.
