Couple to face trial after murder

A MAN and woman have been returned for trial to in connection with the murder of Paul Owens in Newcastle earlier this year.

David Kenneway (27) and Lynsey Cahoon (21) made no response to the charges as they were read to them during a preliminary enquiry at Downpatrick District Court on Thursday.

Kenneway, of Newry’s Kenard Villas, is accused of the murder of Mr. Owens while Cahoon faces three charges of assisting an offender.

According to the charges she provided police with a false deion of an alleged offender and attempted to destroy evidence by washing clothing and by cleaning a knife.

District Judge Greg McCourt said he was satisfied on the papers that each has a case to answer.

Cahoon, of Belfast’s Rodney Drive, was remanded on the same terms of bail while Kenneway was remanded back into custody. No application for bail was made.

Both defendants will appear for arraignment at Downpatrick Crown Court on January 10.
