Councillor welcomes plans for improvements in Spa

8 February 2012

BALLYNAHINCH councillor Garth Craig has welcomed a Roads Service commitment to address a number of issues raised by the Spa Community Association.

He recently met with representatives from the Roads Service’s network maintenance and traffic management sections to discuss several areas of concern.

Councillor Craig said that as a result of the talks, new flashing signs warning drivers they are approaching Spa Primary School are to be erected.

In addition, a sign warning drivers they are approaching the school from the Ballymaglave Road direction is to be moved to a “more prominent position.” A new anti-skid surface is also to be provided at the Ballymaglave Road.

Councillor Craig said damaged sections of footpath close to the Spa crossroads will be replaced before the end of this financial year and the Roads Service has committed to “sealing” footpaths in the area. However, he explained this work can only be carried out during warmer weather.

“Other maintenance work including cutting back hedges which are obscuring road signs will be carried out in the near future,” he continued.

Councillor Craig has also welcomed resurfacing work carried out at the Dunmore Road from the Spa crossroads towards the lake

He added: “I am informed that, subject to available finances, further resurfacing work around the lake will take place shortly. Although other issues are still outstanding, I am pleased that work is ongoing.”
