DOWN Council is to appoint a new Director of Corporate Services, just a year before it goes out of business.
Local politicians approved the surprise appointment during a behind-closed-doors debate last week,
The Recorder understands the new director is being appointed to help alleviate increasing pressure within the chief executive’s department.
A Down Council spokeswoman said items taken “in committee” typically relate to legal, financial or personnel issues which by their nature cannot be publicly shared.
She added: “It would therefore be inappropriate to provide the detail as to the specifics of any ‘in committee’ item.”
