Coffee morning for cancer research

Coffee morning for cancer research

1 December 2021

BAKERS from South Eastern Regional College cooked up a sweet £300 for Cancer Research UK when they hosted a coffee morning recently.

Level 3 Confectionery & Patisserie students from course at the college’s Lisburn campus created a selection of mouth-watering scones, tray bakes and cupcakes all served with a refreshing cup of tea or coffee to raise the money.

The idea for the coffee morning fundraiser came from Dromara student Joanne Barlow, who took on the role of head chef, planning the bakes and treats and securing support from her fellow classmates.

Visitors had the choice to sit in or take away a beautifully presented box of treats.

The team was supported by students from the Level 2 Diploma in Professional Food and Beverage Service who provided excellent hospitality service for those students and staff who had booked a table in the College’s Linen Room.

Joanne also organised sponsorship from Windmill Fabrics in Saintfield who generously supported the fundraiser with the cost of the ingredients.

College lecturer, Ruth Doherty, added: “This is a great example of project-based learning in action.   Joanne had to decide on the menu, plan for orders, work to a tight schedule and set a price that would raise funds for the charity.

“All the students did a fantastic job, and we would like to thank everyone who supported them.”
