Chloe’s pop-up campsite raises £1k for Hospice

KILLINCHY schoolgirl Chloe McMullan has raised over £1,000 for the Northern Ireland Hospice after opening a pop-up summer camp site adjacent to her Quarterland Road home.

But she has been left disappointed that a banner she made to highlight her fundraising effort was stolen not once, but twice.

The first time the banner went missing it was later found in a field, but Chloe and her dad, Kenny, have been unable to find it after it was taken a second time several weeks ago and have appealed for its return.

Chloe raised £1,000 for the Hospice last summer after opening a pop-up tuck shop at the driveway of her home and raised an additional £1,000 this July and August when she opened her camp site in support of the charity which works with individuals and their families.

There was no set nightly charge, with people who stayed asked to make a donation, with the temporary camping facility also offering shower, kitchen and toilet facilities, helping make it a little home from home.

Visitors from as far away as France and Canada stayed at the camp site with Chloe handing out pens and flyers donated by the Hospice so people were aware of how their money was being spent to help others.

Dad Kenny said in addition to the banner being stolen, small signs placed along the side of the road to direct people to the facility were also stolen.

“Chloe has been left disappointed at what happened but I have explained to her that there are more good people in the world than bad and that the money she helped raise for the Hospice will make a difference,” he explained.

Kenny is also hoping whoever stole the banner will return it or leave it somewhere it can be found.

He added: “People from the Hospice came to see Chloe when they heard the banner was stolen the first time and it is really disappointing someone has taken it again for whatever reason.

“Chloe is now back at school and we hope the banner will be returned.”
