Chloe add to her fundraising with pop-up campsite

KILLINCHY schoolgirl Chloe McMullan has expanded her fundraising efforts this summer in aid of the Northern Ireland Hospice.

The Down High student has raised £1,000 for the high profile charity last year after opening a pop-up tuck shop at the driveway of her Quarterland Road home.

Chloe is also offering campers the opportunity to bed down for the night — or several if they wish — in an adjoining field this summer.

While there is no set nightly charge, people who stay will be asked to make a donation, with the temporary camping facility also offering shower, kitchen and toilet facilities, helping make it a little home from home.

The tuck shop proved extremely popular last year with cyclists and walkers. Visitors from Australia, Canada and China stopped off to help Chloe raise money for the cancer charity which does so much wonderful work with individuals and their families.

Dad Kenny explained the camp site is aimed at families and couples with all donations going to the charity. Along with the tuck shop, it will be open until the end of August.

He regularly raises money for charity and, impressed with the work of the Hospice, last year suggested Chloe look into doing what she could do to help.

“She was delighted to raise £1,000 and it would be fantastic if she could match that figure this year,” Kenny continued.

While the proud dad started Chloe off with £25 worth of stock which she then had to replenish, the schoolgirl had to count everything up in the evenings.

With news of Chloe’s charity fundraising spreading last summer, big name companies including

Tayto, Coca-Cola and Johnston’s in Lisburn weighed in with their support, donating goods to help the schoolgirl raise as much as she could for the Hospice.

“When the tuck shop closed at the end of last summer, all the food that was left was donated to a local foodbank which meant Chloe was also helping local people in addition to the Hospice,” Kenny said.

“She is looking forward to this summer and will be really pleased if she can match last year’s total.”
