Charity to host children’s event

17 October 2012

FAMILY support charity HomeStart and the County Down Rural Community Network will host a children’s jamboree in Castlewellan Community Centre this Thursday from 10am until 1pm.

There will be food, information stalls, street games and music during the event, which local people and members of the local ethnic community are warmly invited to attend.

The event has been organised to celebrate the broad diversity of cultures within the local area.

Participants can get free beauty treatments as well as blood pressure and cholesterol tests and try different foods from around the world or enjoy an exhibition of pictures on a cultural theme done by children from the local cross community playgroup and the Irish playgroup.

“I was really surprised to find that street games are the common denominator for children across the world and that will be the theme of our jamboree,” said HomeStart organiser, Sharon Robson.

“Children play together without seeing differences in each other or worrying about language difficulties and we hope to highlight that children from all arts and parts play very similar street games.”

There will be lots of information, advice and freebies on the day while visitors will have the opportunity to meet and greet neighbours and build relationships with the organisations that are taking part.

The event is open to all age groups with or without children, particularly those from different countries.
