A BALLYNAHINCH woman has completed a daring abseil to raise money for a brain injury charity that helped her following a serious cycling accident.
Caroline Patterson careered off her bike during a racing event in County Kerry in September 2010.
Although she has no recollection of the accident, which left her in a coma, witnesses have since told her she went over the handlebars of her bike.
During her recuperation in the months that followed, 42 year-old Caroline was helped by the charity Headway, which offers assistance and support group sessions for victims of brain injury.
She decided to host the charity abseil for Headway at Victoria Square in Belfast at the weekend and raised £150.
Academy Primary School in Saintfield, where her five year-old son William is a pupil, is also planning a non-uniform day in the coming weeks to further boost the proceeds of the event.
Caroline is optimistic that a good amount of money will be raised for Headway as a result.
“I received so much help after my accident from Headway as well as Thomson House in Lisburn and Home Start,” said Caroline.
“I had to move back with my parents and was not allowed to drive for eight months, my memory was also badly affected at the start.
“Thankfully I feel good now and I am back to cycling again.”
If anybody would like to support Caroline’s efforts for Headway, they are asked to telephone the charity on 028 9070 5125.
