Call into Killyleagh Bridge Centre for free health check

19 September 2018

KILLYLEAGH’S Bridge Community Centre is the venue for a new free health initiative.

Developed by the local authority’s community services department, the scheme will be formally launched tomorrow evening at 6pm.

At the launch, the South Eastern Trust will provide details of its ‘eat well’ programme and offer a 12 week self-monitoring chart to participants. The programme consists of a walk every Sunday at 2pm, with health seminars every other Tuesday and a fitness class every Thursday at 6pm.

Ahead of the launch, Newry, Mourne and Down Council chairman Mark Murnin said maintaining a healthy lifestyle was of real benefit.

“This helps to protect against serious conditions such as heart attack, stroke, osteoporosis and diabetes, to name but a few,” he said.

“This new project will provide all participants with the support and encouragement they need and this help will continue for the duration of the programme.”

The 12-week educational and physical programme is designed for adults 16 and over and will suit all levels of fitness, with the aim to control weight, lower blood pressure and reduce stress.

Following the programme, it is hoped that participants will avail of the facilities within the Bridge Centre to sustain their new healthy lifestyle.

In addition, community groups and local councillors are urging people within the Killyleagh area to avail of this excellent free opportunity to help improve their lifestyles and make new friends.

Further details about the new initiative are available from the Bridge Centre, telephone 028 4482 8648.

Those interested in the new initiative are reminded that enrolment is required for seminars and fitness classes as spaces are limited.
