Ballynahinch bypass scheme edges closer

7 November 2018

THE planned Ballynahinch bypass scheme is moving into the contract stage, Sinn Féin’s Cathy Mason has confirmed.

The party’s Slieve Croob spokesperson has received confirmation from the Department for Infrastructure that work has commenced on drawing up contract documentation for the scheme.

She said: “Following the decision by the then Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard to commence work on the Ballynahinch bypass in December 2016, officials from DfI have been working diligently through the various legal stages to ensure the long awaited bypass scheme can commence as soon as possible.

“A programme of geotechnical investigation works on lands along the length of the scheme was completed in 2017 with advanced archeological investigation works completed earlier this year.”

Ms Mason added: “This has allowed the Department to now move ahead with preparation of the contract documentation in readiness of funding becoming available to construct the scheme.”
