STEP into the Sir Hans Sloane Centre Killyleagh for ‘A Sense of Place’.

This is the theme of Leo Casement’s latest art exhibition, which opened at the weekend and runs until next Wednesday.

Leo is one of Co Down’s well-loved and well-known celebrated artists.  He keeps his artwork close to home with drumlins, fields, loughs and islands but influenced by his art career throughout France and Spain.

The colours are vibrant and dance around the canvas with stories and senses of the place. Among the titles are Golden Harvest, Morning Stroll Coney Island, Green Valley, Day and Night, Purple Fields, Fast and Famine.

Leo has donated one of his painting as a raffle prize with all proceeds going to the charity work of the Centre, for an art project with the young people of area. Tickets cost £3 each, or four for £10, and are available at the exhibition.

Leo was born and reared in Killyleagh and has been painting from an early age.  He sold his first paintings of street scenes and portraits on the streets of Dublin before he moved to London where he exhibited in the numerous galleries in the early 1970s.

He moved to France, travelling extensively, selling portraits and landscapes. He then travelled throughout Spain, settling in Marbella where his reputation for his signature landscapes and horse paintings grew.

Leo returned to Ireland in the 1990’s. His horse paintings and ‘vertical’ landscapes were now receiving many awards.

A spokesperson for the  Sir Hans Sloane Centre said: “All paintings are available for purchase but most of all we welcome people to come and enjoy the atmosphere in the gallery.

“Browse and enjoy this new centre, the peace and the atmosphere. Experience something new. There is no need to be an art buff, Just look and be here for a while.  Leo is on hand, working his craft and ready to tell the story on each painting.’
