Appeal launched for locals with disabilities

SIR — As an individual with a disability I have a few challenges to face before I put a key in the ignition.

But enough about me. I’m interested in others and inspiring them to go on and do things for themselves. So that is why half a dozen of us got together and started a little known charity ‘Let’s Do’.

What we do is we take groups of up to 10 people with disabilities, which includes those with hidden disabilities, and create a wide range of challenging events. But we make them fun and it seems to work because everyone we take comes back a different person.

Recently we took 12 disabled individuals to this year’s Isle of Man TT and stayed in the Joey Dunlop house. Two of the group were in wheelchairs, one of whom has no legs.

Our hired minibus for the event was good but we felt that we needed something really up to the job. So now we have found what we really need — it is a rear ramp accessible 16 seat minibus, just the answer to our prayers.

So I would like to start a fund to purchase it.

The total sum required is £4,500, which is good value for an 2007 Volkswagen bus which is ready to go — we just cannot miss it .

Once we have it we will let other groups use it as well so it will be an asset to us and others. So for any individual or company making a kind donation we will put your name and business on our bus so everyone can see real generosity.

We are a now registered charity called ‘Let’s Do Veterans Support and Rehabilitation’. We are actively looking into helping children with disabilities and working with veterans in the Republic of Ireland.

Our charity number is N.I.C 105434 and you can find us on Facebook under ‘Let’s Do Veteran Support Charity’.

For anyone wishing to make a donation, our account details are: Danske Bank, sort code 95 06 79, account no. 50133558, account name — Lets Do Veterans Support. I can also be contacted on 07543419833 and my email is robert.maxwell9@btinternet.com

Thank you.

Yours etc,

ROBERT MAXWELL,
