THE sun shone down on Eileen Mullen for her Lady Captain’s Day at St Patrick’s Golf Club on Saturday.
The scoring matched the scorching temperatures with octogenarian Anne McCormick lifting the top prize with a sizzling 44 points.
Even so, her victory was only by the narrowest margins after newcomer Allison Crichton also came in with 44 points after another red-hot round. Anne got the verdict on a count back of the last six holes.
Back in third place with 43 points was Moya Cannon and the gross prize went to Twyla Gibson with an excellent 77.
Many of the competitors enjoyed the fast-running, rock-hard fairways, but scoring well was still far from easy.
The guests’ prize was won by Carmel McGrattan with 39 points, Roisin Ramsey won the committee prize with 42 points and Cate Finn took the past captains’ category with 41 points.
The front nine prize went to Sharon Heaney, with 22 points, and Eithne Moore had the best back nine, also with 22 points.
There were nearest-the-pin prizes for Karen Sharvin, Sharon Heaney, Kay McQuoid, Twyla Gibson and Geraldine Grant, and there were three twos on the day from Geraldine Grant, Mark Kelly and Karen Sharvin.
In the guests’ competition for the men, the winner was Gerry Dillon with 34 points on a count back of the last seven holes from Eamon Fitzsimons.
The winners of the mixed greensomes competition held on Thursday evening were Jim Mageean and Caitlin Burke with Lawrence Craig and Cate Finn second.
In her speech on Saturday night, the lady captain congratulated all the winners and also expressed her gratitude to everyone who made her day so special, in particular the ground staff for having the course in excellent condition, the bar and catering staff and the ladies’ section of the club for their support.
