A DUNDRUM youth group has been taking part in a clean up of the village.
Volunteers from the Revival in our Town (RIOT) youth centre on Manse Road, cut a badly overgrown grassed are and took part in other spruce ups at the request of councillor Patrick Clarke.
The clean ups took place at the entrance to Murlough View, which has not been adopted by Roads Service or the council, and along a laneway linking the estate with Castlehill.
“Following a number of complaints I had received about a badly overgrown grassed area at the entrance of Murlough View I approached Richie Shilliday of RIOT who very generously offered to help,” said Mr. Clarke.
“The badly overgrown grassed area has been totally transformed with young children now enjoying the grassed area for recreation.”
“A clean up of rubbish, bottles, and overgrown weeds were also removed from the paved area of the derelict former Castle Vaults Bar situated along Main Street Dundrum which has also been an eyesore.
“I would like to thank Group leader Richie Shilliday and the volunteers from RIOT Youth Centre who gave up their free time to carry out the recent environmental improvements at Murlough View and the derelict former Castle Vaults bar.”
“RIOT is a non-profit registered charity devoted to building community in County Down and does great community work in Dundrum and is to be commended for their volunteers carrying out the recent environmental improvements in Dundrum.”
