Meanwhile, Newcastle go off to a victorious start in the first fixture of the North-South League when they met a team from Kells, Co. Dublin, on Sunday.

Eugene McGuigan, Terry O’Reilly, Hazel Carder and Jane McIlwrath secured an impressive 3-1 win over the visitors.

In the men’s game, Newcastle lost narrowly in a 11-9 tie-break, but this was more than made up for with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the ladies’ match and similarly convincing victories in the mixed doubles.

Junior coaching will commence from 5pm on Wednesday, September 17, and from 9am on Saturday, September 20. Contact coach Hazel Carder for more information on 07786 636866.
