Tea party to raise funds for Marie Curie groups

Tea party to raise funds for Marie Curie groups

20 May 2015

TWO local Marie Curie support groups are combining to host a tea party in Newcastle on the Irish Open weekend.

Mourneview and Down fundraising groups are combining to host a Blooming Great Tea Party to raise funds for Marie Curie on Saturday, May 30.

The event, which is taking place between 10am and 2pm at Newcastle Parish Centre will coincide with the Irish Open when the town will hopefully be full of visitors.

All the money raised will help Marie Curie provide more free care to people living with a terminal illness in their own homes and in the Marie Curie Hospice, Belfast.

Johanne King a member of the local nursing staff said: “We hope that the local community in Newcastle will join us at our event and help support Marie Curie.

“We’ve got lots planned for our Blooming Great Tea Party including face-painting and a chocolate fountain. All the money raised will help Marie Curie provide expert care, guidance and support to help people living with a terminal illness get the most from the time they have left.”

The groups’ tea party will help to promote others taking place across the country this June 20-29. Last year across the UK the Blooming Great Tea Party for Marie Curie raised £667,000, which pays for 33,350 hours of vital nursing care.
