Shooting survivor plans to sue police

A SURVIVOR of the UVF gun attack on the Thierafurth Bar in Kilcoo almost 25 years ago is taking legal action over claims the police failed to reinvestigate the case.

The unnamed man, who was in the bar when two UVF gunmen burst in and opened fire, killing 42 year-old Peter McCormack, has launched judicial review proceedings in Belfast following publication of a Police Ombudsman’s report into the Loughinisland massacre.

The report into the UVF murder of six men in the Heights Bar in 1994 traced the activities of a UVF gang back in time, including the attack on the Kilcoo pub in November 1992.

The Ombudsman said there was evidence that some of the loyalist terrorists involved had also been linked to a number of murders including Dundrum businessman, Jack Kielty, in January 1988 and the six men in Loughinisland.
