Shadow Secretary of State hears fishing concerns regarding Brexit

SINN Féin MP Chris Hazzard recently welcomed the Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland to South Down.

Labour’s Tony Lloyd visited Ardglass where local people discussed their concerns in relation to Brexit.

Speaking afterwards, Mr Hazzard said hd had been delighted to welcomed Mr Lloyd to the area.

“It is important that the Labour Party hears the views and concerns of local people, including the fishermen of Ardglass, who will suffer the negative impact of Brexit,” he said. “This engagement is in stark contrast to British Government ministers who avoid any contact with alternative views on these issues.

“Today we had a very constructive discussion with the local fishing industry in Ardglass. We particularly focused on the challenges that face the industry in sustaining their livelihoods in the wake of Brexit as well hearing the deep concerns locally about a Conservative government propped up by the DUP in London who care little for indigenous industries or the impact on places like Ardglass.”
