A YOUNG Killinchy film-maker has won a major international award.

Nineteen year-old Rory Fitzpatrick has just returned from Houston, Texas, where he was awarded a Gold Remi award at the 51st International Worldfest film festival for his film The Wanderings of Oisín.

The Wanderings of Oisín is a short irish language film which gives a modern twist to the legend of Oisín and Tír na nÓg.

Worldfest is one of the major international festivals for independent films and attracted over 4500 entries from around the world of which only a small number won awards.

Previous winners of Remi awards include well known international filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg.

After the Fastnet Festival, Rory is off to Tromso in Norway where he has been invited to participate in a 10-day workshop for young international filmmakers at the Nuff Film Festival.

He will start a university course in film production in September.
