Quality acts to headline month of music at centre

30 September 2015

A MONTH of music at Down Arts Centre begins this weekend with two big-name performances.

On the heels of a sell-out show and rave reviews from the Downpatrick audience in November last year, The 4 of Us return on Saturday.

Their critically acclaimed acoustic show showcases songs from their brand new album, as well as songs from their extensive back catalogue.

From their first anthem, Mary, still a radio favourite, through to the UK-charting She Hits Me, to Sunlight, The 4 of Us has notched up over two decades of radio hits and six top-20 charting albums. Don’t miss this rare chance to catch them live.

There are still some tickets

remaining for A Little (Jazz) Night Music on Friday featuring the celebrated vocalist Stella Bass and her band.

This show is a tribute to the music of the Academy Award-winning Broadway composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim.

Featuring wonderful new arrangements, Stella will celebrate Sondheim’s 85th year with a concert of his most popular songs, bridging the worlds of musicals and jazz.

Sondheim got his first big break in 1957 when he was hired as the lyricist for Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story.

Two of his own musicals, Sweeney Todd and the recent Into the Woods, have been adapted for the big screen, and in this new show, Sondheim’s music, including iconic songs such as Send in the Clowns, Losing My Mind and the Oscar-winning Sooner or Later, are beautifully adapted with new jazz arrangements.

Newry, Mourne and Down Council chair, Naomi Bailie, welcomed the prestigious musical line-up for October.

“The exciting line-up of performances this month and across the new season demonstrates that the quality of live events at Down Arts Centre is second to none,” she said. “The music this weekend represents great value and a fantastic night out for locals and visitors alike.”
