Pride judges coming to Castlewellan

Pride judges coming to Castlewellan

16 August 2017

JUDGES of the prestigious Pride of Place awards are due to visit Castlewellan shortly.

While in the town they will meet representatives from Castlewellan Community Partnership, an organisation which works tirelessly to make the town a more pleasant place to live, work and socialise in.

The purpose of the annual awards competition — now in its 15th year —  is to recognise and celebrate the fantastic work being done every day by communities across Ireland.

The Castlewellan group has been nominated for an award in the community based youth initiative category by Newry, Mourne and Down Council.

The arrival of the judges provides an opportunity for the Castlewellan group to showcase the great work it has carried out for the community and demonstrate their pride in their place to the judges with a presentation. There will also be exhibitions of community activities and a tour of the area highlighting the aspects of which they are particularly proud.

Over the past six years, the Castlewellan Community Partnership has worked closely with the local authority for the management of the town’s community centre which provides a number of services, such as sporting activities, early start playgroups and a cross-community meeting place for a wide range of clubs, societies and groups in the area.

The Castlewellan partnership has also worked closely with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council to secure funding for the redevelopment of the community centre to improve and extend the range of community facilities and services available.
