25 May 2022

ST Mary’s Primary School in Newcastle is hosting a motoring-themed fundraising event in aid of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust this Sunday, May 29.

The fundraiser will be a ‘Cars and Coffee’ morning at the Beechfield Park school, from 10am to 12pm, and will feature old classics and new generation electric cars.

Children and their parents will get to admire everything from a Mark 2 Ford Escort rally car, a beautiful Triumph Dolomite Sprint, a Citroen 2CV, an Austin Allegro Vanden Plas, and a host of classic Minis.

Car enthusiasts will also have the chance to view Reliant Robins with Trotters’ Independent Trading Company emblazoned on the sides in homage to 1980s classic television comedy series, Only Fools and Horses; a Mystery Machine replica from Scooby Doo fame; and also KITT, a Pontiac Transam made famous by the Knight Rider television series, also from the 1980s.

Cars of the future will also be featured, with an electric Porsche Taycan and a number of new Teslas also on show. Members of Strand Bikers MCC will also be showing their support

The family event will feature trade stalls, memorabilia stalls and refreshments.

School principal, Declan Murray commented: “We are very keen to support the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust as we recognise the very important work that it does supporting families in times of trauma and need”.

Participants attending with cars can arrive on site from as early as 8am, with vehicle access to the school restricted to exhibitors only. Additional parking will be available at Bryansford GAC on the Castlewellan Road.
