Newcastle man in court after stabbing incident

A 53 year-old man appeared in court after another man was stabbed five times in Newcastle on Tuesday night.

Brian Dougan, of Ballaghbeg Park, Newcastle, faces charges of grievous bodily harm with intent.

He is also accused of making threats to kill against another man and possessing an offensive weapon.

Mr Dougan was remanded in custody to reappear in Downpatrick on February 11.

The victim, who is in his 40s,  and was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, and is said to be in a stable condition.
