New photographic exhibition in Downpatrick

25 February 2015

A NEW exhibition featuring stunning images of the local landscape and key historic sites captured by local fine art photographer Patricia Pyne has opened at the Down County Museum.

Entitled Power of Place, the exhibition has opened to wide acclaim and runs until September, with free admission.

Early last year, the Down County Museum commissioned Patricia to photograph a selection of early Christian and medieval sites in Co. Down and the results have been displayed in the new dramatic and thought-provoking exhibition which captures the hidden beauty of our ecclesiastical heritage.

In addition to images of early Christian crosses and round towers, there are also stunning shots of Struell Wells, Saul Church, St. Tassach’s Church, Nendrum, Movilla Abbey, Inch Abbey, Kilclief Church, St. John’s Point and many others.

A graduate in Medieval and Modern Languages and an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society, Patricia has developed a reputation as a stylish and creative photographer, with a breadth of subject covering all of Ireland, but dealing mainly with Ulster.

Whilst her particular interests lie in the history of photography, she approaches her work with a modern sensibility, playing a key role in the exploration of the medium as an art form.
