New dental surgery nears completion in Strangford

3 December 2014

STRANGFORD is getting a new dental surgery.

German national, Klaus Edelweiss, is currently putting the finishing touches to his new surgery which will be based at the Green in the village.

The new development has been welcomed by councillor Cadogan Enright who said Strangford is now the only Lecale village with a dentist, pharmacy and doctors’ surgery outside Downpatrick.

“I was delighted to help Klaus Edelweiss, of Edelweiss Dental, overcome some last minute unneeded snarl-ups with his planning permission, and we now have the green light from the planning office who were very helpful in getting us over the line,” said Mr. Enright.

“This was important, as the Down Rural Area Partnership had been supporting this project and the funding might have been affected if we had not managed to sort these issues out in time.”

It is envisaged that the new surgery will serve both Portaferry and Strangford. Work is now ongoing seven days a week to finish the surgery on time for the official opening on Monday, December 11.

New patients are already being registered at 028 44881995 and Mr. Edelweiss is also taking patient bookings for December.

“A German national, Klaus met a local girl 10 years ago, and the rest as they say, is history,” said Mr. Enright.

Mr. Edelweiss has been working in Ireland as a dentist for some years, most recently in Downpatrick.
