NEWCASTLE author Mo Maher has produced a children’s adventure book capturing the imagination of youth with traditional storytelling mastery.

Russ on the Suss , inspired by Mo’s own grandson Paul, was launched at the Slieve Donard Hotel in Newcastle this week.

Published on Amazon Kindle last month, it has been keeping many younger readers entertained while on their summer holidays.

Russ on the Suss tells the story of Russ who is nearly 12 and facing his biggest challenge ever. A lover of puzzles, mystery and adventure, he is on a mission with the help of friend Susie to solve the legacy left to him by his great-grandfather GG.

Russ on the Suss has being published by Northern Ireland based children’s book publisher, Emain Publications. It has also been supported through the Creative Industries Innovation Fund by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Department for Culture, Arts and Leisure.

Shauna Dunlop, of Emain Publications, said the book was a pleasure to design and develop.

“I hope that it will inspi]re our young readers here to look for their own inspirational stories and that families will engage with the artistry, the clever twists and turns of Russ’s story and continue to bring the everyday magic of reading and storytelling into their hearts and homes,” she said.

Lorraine McDowell, Director of Operations at the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, said: “At the Arts Council we want to put our support firmly behind local companies and help them develop and transform their creative ideas into commercial success.

“The source of our wealth, job creation and economic competitiveness here in Northern Ireland is shifting to our burgeoning creative sector and we are delighted to be able to play a role in helping to make a local business, such as Emain Publications, as well equipped as possible to  compete in the global market. As a local children’s book publisher, Emain Publications has clearly found an exciting new niche and we wish all involved the very best of luck in the future.”

Russ on the Suss, priced £7.99 is now available via Amazon, Waterstones and at Newcastle Visitor Information Centre.
