Maghera Inn has tastiest pub grub in the country

DOWN District boasts some of Northern Ireland’s top pubs and that’s official.

But the hugely popular Maghera Inn is the cream of the crop after it won the highly competitive Best Food Pub category at the recent Pub of the Year awards held at La Mon Hotel and Country Club.

In fact it was a night of double celebration for the Maghera Inn which was also a finalist in the prestigious Pub of the Year category.

Elsewhere, O’Hare’s Lounge Bar in Newcastle was shortlisted in the Best Entertainment category, while another of the resort’s most popular pubs, The Anchor Bar, was a finalist in the Best Pub Week event alongside Downpatrick’s Lakeside Inn and McBride’s in Comber.

The Lakeside Inn’s Margaret Ferguson was also shortlisted in the Best Barperson award in association with Sunday Life.

But it was the Maghera Inn which was the toast of the town, with judges describing the venue outside Newcastle as a “worthy winner.”

They said the pub has “a real passion for food and serving the customers what they want,” praising the Maghera Inn for encouraging customer feedback and for “showing good knowledge and appreciation of the importance of food and its critical role in the overall profits and business success.”

Mystery diners who visited a number of pubs said the food served at the Maghera Inn was “beautifully presented, reasonably priced, fresh, appetising and simply amazing.”

Matthew Davy collected the award on behalf of the Maghera Inn and said everyone is delighted to bring the best food title home to the Maghera Inn and to be a finalist for the overall Pub of the Year award.

“The whole team works tirelessly to ensure the quality of our food and service is of the highest standard. To be recognised at Pubs of Ulster’s Pub of the Year Awards is an honour and a real incentive for us to keep doing what we are doing.

“It is always our top priority to ensure customers have the best experience when they visit us.

I would like to thank all of our great staff for their hard work and dedication in making The Maghera Inn the award-winning pub that it is today.”
