A COMBER schoolteacher has been confirmed as one of the most innovative science teachers in the country.
Mr. John Sandford, vice-principal of Andrews Memorial Primary School, was welcomed as a new Fellow of the Primary Science Teaching College during a major two-day conference in Manchester last week.
He was selected as a Fellow for his effective teaching practices in science subjects and will now be responsible for inspiring similar practices across other schools.
Mr. Sandford, who has a particular interest in linking science with the real world, is one of 100 Fellows of the Trust who are selected for outstanding achievements.
He has been praised for forging excellent links with industry after his school hosted Northern Ireland’s first primary school based Chemistry at Work day.
Launched in 2003 by the Primary Science Teaching Trust, the college typically accepts around seven or eight members each year.
