Killyleagh musical event to raise money for Marie Curie

29 April 2015

MUSICIANS in Killyleagh are joining forces to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Twelve of them are teaming up for a unique performance at the Dufferin Coaching Inn in on May 2 which will feature music to suit a wide variety of tastes.

The Killyleagh venue’s Grand Hall is the setting for the cancer fundraiser which gets underway at 7pm when Damien Hanna will perform an acoustic set. He will be followed by a new young band from Killyleagh called The Hidden Above who will be playing covers and some original songs from their forthcoming debut CD, due out early next year.

For lovers of classic rock and roll, Sweet Leaf will be catering for their every need when they take the stage at 10.30pm to play two hours of classic hits.

Conal Montgomery from Sweet Leaf

explained the aim of the fundraiser is to focus minds on the number of Killyleagh people who have passed away from cancer over the past few years.

“The performers will be playing music as a tribute to them and raising funds for Marie Curie,” he explained. “All the musicians are playing for free, with Leontine Haines donating the Dufferin’s Grand Hall for free.”

Conal explained the doormen at the Dufferin Coaching Inn are also providing their services free of charge on the night.

“The generosity of many will ensure every single penny raised on the night will go directly to Marie Curie Cancer Care. The event promises to be a good night’s craic while supporting a very worthwhile charity,” he added.

Tickets for the Bank Holiday weekend event cost £10 which includes a light supper.
