Funnyman Paddy set to headline comedy shows at Open festival

DUNDRUM comedian Patrick Kielty has been confirmed as the headline act for the comedy nights taking place as part of the forthcoming Irish Open Fringe Festival.

Newry, Mourne and Down Council is organising a number of events throughout the week of the prestigious tournament in Newcastle from May 25 to 31.

Events kick off on May 25 at 7pm at St Patrick’s Park with the GAA Down Open when an Ulster select take on a Rest of Ireland select.

The Dundrum comedian launches the comedy nights events on May 29 at St Mary’s Hall and before he takes to the stage he will be preceded by Lurgan’s Micky Bartlett. Doors open at 6.45pm.

The following evening, also at St Mary’s Hall, Northern Ireland’s Queen of Comedy, May McFettridge, will have them rolling in the aisles as she stars in an exciting new opera LoveGolffLove, written by Brian Irvine and presented by Northern Ireland opera. Doors open at 7.30pm and with the comedy nights selling out fast, tickets can be booked at www.lolcomedy.co.uk.

Newry, Mourne and Down Council chairwoman Naomi Bailie said Newcastle will be buzzing over the week of the Irish Open, with the local authority hosting a range of exciting events for everyone.
