Event raises thousands for Make a Wish

ALMOST £5,000 has been raised for the Make a Wish Foundation through an annual soccer tournament in memory of a much-loved Drumaness footballer.

The ninth Kevin Gorman Memorial Cup was held in Meadowvale, Drumaness, on July 22.

It is hosted by Kevin’s mum, Jackie Gorman, and his brother Shane to remember Kevin, who lost his life in a traffic accident in November 2008.

The cup competition was originally between Drumaness and Kilmore Rec, for whom Kevin played, but in recent years has been played between Drumaness and the PSNI.

Jackie said she was delighted by the amount of money raised this year for the Make a Wish Foundation, which gives seriously ill children the opportunity to fulfil a dream.

She said they chose the charity because of Kevin’s love for his children whose daughters, Shannyn and

Abi, presented the winning cup at last month’s tournament to the PSNI team.

Jackie said the money was raised through a raffle with prizes including Manchester United tickets and a boxing glove signed by Carl Frampton.

“We have great support, which I think is due to how well Kevin was known and how we are known in Drumaness,” she said.

“Ten youth teams took part in this year’s tournament so it is getting bigger every year.

“We had bouncy castles, face painting, certificates for the youth players and music in the club. We would like to thank everyone who supported us once again this year.
