Dundrum to get first pedestrian safety crossing

18 October 2017

A NEW pedestrian crossing will be in place in Dundrum within the next six months.

Transport NI has confirmed to South Down MP Chris Hazzard that the road safety measure in Main Street will be in place before the spring.

During his term at the helm of the Department of Infrastructure in the former Stormont administration, Mr Hazzard announced a crossing would be provided, which Mournes councillor Willie Clarke had been lobbying for.

After winning the South Down seat at the Westminster election, Mr Hazzard stood down as Department of Infrastructure minister, but is delighted Transport NI plans to press ahead with the new crossing.

He added: “I am delighted roads officials have confirmed that the Dundrum crossing will be in place within the next six months. Residents have waited a long time for this upgrade in pedestrian safety and I am sure they will be relieved to hear that the scheme is definitely going ahead.”
