THE Department for Infrastructure has been asked to inspect a number of drains in rural areas.
The appeal by Slieve Croob Ulster Unionist candidate Alan Lewis comes after a number of areas experienced varying degrees flooding shortly before Christmas.
Mr Lewis said the Dromara, Hollybush, Wateresk, Priests, Carrigs, Seaforde, Manse and Demesne roads across Lecale experienced flooding.
He said it was vital the drains in these areas are inspected and cleaned if necessary to prevent something similar happening in the future.
“Surface water was pooling at several locations causing a danger to motorists,”he remarked. “I have asked departmental officials to inspect the drains and jet them with high powered water cleaners.”
