Downpatrick man stars on MTV show

17 January 2018

AN aspiring Downpatrick actor will reappear on our screens after coming across an unusual television opportunity.

Twenty three year-old Ronan Rice will star on the MTV show Ex on the Beach Body SOS, airs tonight at 8pm.

Hosted by Geordie reality TV star, Vicky Pattison, she will be on a mission throughout the series to help Ronan find his body confidence.

Put onto a strict diet and a gruelling exercise regime for the series, including dance classes in London and a beach trip to Spain, viewers will watch as Ronan sheds two stone over two months and finds the confidence to get back on the dating scene.

This will be Ronan’s fourth reality TV appearance after featuring on the cutting edge TLC dating show Undressed, Channel 4’s One Night with my Ex and Channel Five’s Don’t Stop Believing.

Ronan, who returned home to Downpatrick in 2016 after ping out of a performing arts course in Wales last year, says being pursued by reality television agents for the shows has boosted his confidence and improved his chance of becoming a television presenter.

“I was very homesick while I was studying in Swansea but worried about leaving the acting course,” he said.

“Looking back, it was probably the best decision I could have made as it pushed me to go out there and do other things.

“Ex on the Beach Body SOS is a weight loss show and although it was a tough 12 weeks, it has done me so much good.

“I did everything I was told, ate what I was told to eat and worked out every day.

“At first I did not notice how much I was changing but when I saw the before and after pictures I was very pleasantly surprised. It has helped me believe in myself again.”

Ronan said he enjoys the “buzz” he gets from the feedback to his shows.

“Television is my comfort zone and I love people getting the opportunity to see the real me,” he said.

“That is what makes me happy and gives me a a great platform to launch a presenting career.”
