Downpatrick man is charged with GBH

20 August 2014

A DOWNPATRICK man has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm after a stabbing incident near Strangford last week.

Forty nine year-old John Bernard Wade, of Roughal Park, appeared at Downpatrick Court on Thursday after being charged with four offences.

Wade is charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Mr. Danny Crangle on August 13 with intent and with common assault against Mr. Eddie Crangle.

He is also charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Mr. Shaun Crangle.

The final charge is possession of an offensive weapon with intent. The court was told this relates to a Stanley knife.

The charges are alleged to have occurred at a property owned by Wade at Castleward Road on the outskirts of Strangford.

A police officer told the court the PSNI was contacted after a man was stabbed in the chest during an incident involving at least eight men in relation to a land dispute.

Although the police objected to bail, District Judge Mr. Greg McCourt released Wade on his own bail of £500 to reside in Downpatrick.

As conditions of his bail, Wade is not to contact the alleged injured parties in the case and the two other men who are co-accused in the matter.

He is also not to go to Castleward Road, Strangford, and not to go within one mile of Bishopscourt.

The case was adjourned to Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court sitting on October 9.
