Downpatrick family meet Saturday Night Takeaway star

A DOWNPATRICK family have enjoyed a chance encounter with one of television’s best loved television personalities during a once in lifetime trip to Florida over Easter.

Janine and Dale Walker and their sons, Evan and Leon, met the “very lovely” Declan Donnelly, of Ant and Dec fame, who was at Universal Studios to film the seasonal finale of the hit Saturday Night Takeaway Show.

Janine said they were stunned to bump into Dec just before the live filming of his show, which he had to do solo after his comic partner, Ant McPartlin, was arrested for drink driving last month.

Janine said it was “pure fluke” that they were at Universal studios where dozens of Ant and Dec fans had been flown to take part in the Saturday Night Takeaway series finale.

She said they enjoyed a lovely chat with “down to earth” Dec, who recently announced his wife is expecting their first baby.

“He was really lovely. I saw him coming across the piazza and gave him a wee wave and he waved back,” she’ said.

“I didn’t want to disturb him as he was in a group but he came over to say hi and asked if we were having a good time. I said I hoped everything was going OK with the show and he said it was.”

Janine said Declan offered to pose for lots of pictures with the family.

“I said to him about his his wife being pregnant and he said they were nervous but excited and I said we would say a wee prayer that everything goes OK.

“He seemed really touched by my well wishes. We hugged before saying goodbye.

“He was a lovely, down to earth guy with no airs and graces.”
