Diabetes support group is in running for award

THE Ballynahinch Diabetes UK Support Group has been nominated for a top award.

The group has been shortlisted in the campaigning and influencing category at the Diabetes UK Northern Ireland Inspire Awards.

Roberta McCullough from Carryduff has been nominated for the Supporting Diabetes UK Award at the event.

Sponsored by Click Energy, the awards recognise and acknowledge the invaluable contribution of volunteers and groups that make a huge, positive difference, to the lives of people in the diabetes community.

The Ballynahinch group will find out if it has won the award in recognition of its hard work at the charity’s awards ceremony which is being held at Belfast’s Titanic Visitor Centre on June 2.

Jillian Patchett, Diabetes UK’s Northern Ireland national director, said she was delighted with the number of nominations which indicated the vast work and commitment of the charity’s “amazing volunteers.“

She continued: “Our supporters, volunteers and fundraisers go above and beyond to help the local diabetes community.

“It is so inspiring to read the nominations and the many ways in which people help us raise awareness and funds. We would like to thank everyone who not only helps Diabetes UK in Northern Ireland, but also those who took the time to nominate people whom they thought made a difference.”

Click Energy’s managing director, Damian Wilson, said the company was honoured to be supporting the awards.

“We were overwhelmed by the level of nominations for both individuals and community groups for these awards,” he said.

“As the parent of a child with Type 1 diabetes, I fully understand the importance of the work that Diabetes UK Northern Ireland delivers and how instrumental the contribution from volunteers and groups is to supporting people living with diabetes.

“In addition to acknowledging the huge role these volunteers and groups play in society, our hope is that this event will ‘inspire’ others to get involved with Diabetes UK Northern Ireland. We wish all of the finalists the very best of luck.”
