Crossgar arts exhibition

21 January 2015

A WINE-INSPIRED fine art exhibition by one of Northern Ireland’s best known young artists is to open in Crossgar tomorrow.

Wine and vineyard animals are at the heart of Kathryn Callaghan’s ‘New Pourings for 2015’. As well as bottles of wine in various shapes and colours, the exhibition showcases the many animals and birds who live on working vineyards, including cats, chickens, dogs, owls, birds of prey and wild boar.

The Lisbane mum-of-two is known for her unique style, which sees her pour ink freestyle, and her works now hang in galleries, homes and hotels worldwide.

Last year she was named 2014 Illustrator of the Year at the Art Comes Alive contest in Cincinnati, USA. Ten per cent of all sales from this exhibition will be donated to Youth Action NI and one winner will take home an original painting from the new collection.

Preparing for the exhibition at James Nicholson Wine Merchant in Crossgar, Kathryn said: “Through my artwork I try to invoke a sense of energy and life and I’m always inspired by my surroundings.

‘New Pourings for 2015’ is a three-day exhibition, which runs between Thursday and Saturday.

Opening hours are 6pm to 10pm on Thursday and 10am to 7pm on Friday and Saturday. Visit www.kathryncallaghan.co.uk for further details.
