Competition is off to a tee at Crossgar

29 April 2015

LAST year’s fund-raising efforts were rewarded at Crossgar Golf Club on Saturday when the newly-developed eighth tee-box was used for the first time.

In his captain’s speech at the prize giving in the evening, Ian Patterson made mention of the fundraising efforts and all the volunteer work that had gone into the creation of this wonderful new addition to the Crossgar course.

He thanked the greenkeepers and volunteers for having the whole course in such good condition for Saturday’s second annual joint captains’ fundraising open competition.

Saturday saw a day of two halves with the players in the morning having a wet competition while the afternoon competitors enjoyed the sunshine.

The captain and lady captain, Catherine Milhench, were pleased with the large turnout of players both from club members and from several neighbouring clubs.

In her introductory remarks, the lady captain thanked all who had sponsored the event, and those who had supplied soup, sandwiches and tray bakes, and to Melanie and Anne for serving this to all the players after their round of golf.

She presented the prizes to the ladies, including one to herself for nearest-the-pin, her first ever golf prize.

Ladies’ results: 1st Benda Forster, 2nd Monica Magee, 3rd Olive McCashin. Longest drive: Liz Murray. Nearest the pin: Catherine Milhench.

Men’s results: 1st Adam Withers, 2nd Paddy Bell, 3rd Conor Keenan. Best gross: David Watson. Longest drive: Denis Keenan. Nearest the pin: Paul Mullan.
