A CASTLEWELLAN man who battled obesity to achieve extreme fitness has received a regional award for his transformation.

Twenty three year-old Chrisy Feenan was named Mr Body Transformation by the Northern Ireland Fitness Model Association (NIFMA) at the weekend and also took home the trophy for third place in the Mr Muscle category.

Overweight throughout childhood, Chrisy said he decided to try to improve his body shape to get beach ready for a lads’ holiday to Magaluf when he was 17.

Shedding eight stone over the next year, reducing his weight from 19 to 11 stone, he said he found the transformation addictive and began to body build in a bid to further improve his physique.

He is now delighted to be at competition level and said he followed a painstaking 10-week regime to prepare for the weekend competition hosted by NIFMA, weight training eight to 10 times per week, undertaking a cardio routine twice daily while eating eight meals per day.

The regime, which he said was “very scientific”, included a typical breakfast of four servings of oats, six egg whites and a scoop of white protein, followed by three full dinners and three large snacks laden with peanut butter and nuts to help him bulk up.

It is an expensive way of life with Chrisy ensuring his fridge is fully stocked with steaks, fresh fish and green vegetables so he can eat as often as he does.

However, he says he does not smoke and rarely drinks so allows himself the luxury of the best food he can buy.

Now a personal trainer, Chrisy says the dramatic transformation in his shape means clients travel from across Northern Ireland so he can help them lose weight.

“I was heavy throughout my childhood due to a mixture of genetics and poor eating so I understand what it is like to be overweight,” he said.

“I also understand the common misconception that you need to eat less to lose weight. Many people actually eat more before they will lose weight.

“I have found the whole process of weight loss and fitness addictive. For me it started when I started to train for the holiday to Magaluf because I did not want to go on holidays and feel uncomfortable.

It completely changed my life.”

“Before I was really quiet and rarely went out, now I have a thriving fitness business, I have a fiancee and I am full of confidence.”
