A NEW charity exhibition with one of Downpatrick’s most experienced artists is opening at the St Patrick Centre next month.

Donny Maguire, born in Downpatrick in 1924, is a well-known son of the town and talented artist.

His collection ‘Family Tradition’ has been compiled over the past two years.

“It consists of watercolours, acrylics and pastels, some of which are religious and public icons, Greek mythology, song titles, famous poems, portraits, scenic views, also some of my own compositions,” said Donny.

“On a personal note, I am mainly self-taught, and I am carrying on a family tradition as all my family have been artists, even from my grandfather’s time.”

Paintings in ‘Family Tradition’ have been very reasonably priced and the proceeds will be donated to Concern and Trocaire for their work in the Third World.

Family Tradition opens on April 2.
