Centre turns gold to highlight childhood cancer

24 September 2014

THE St. Patrick Centre was bathed in gold this week to help raise awareness of childhood cancer.

Down Council lit up the Downpatrick centre to promote Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and the work of the CLIC Sargent charity.

Throughout September, people across the UK are wearing gold ribbons or holding their own gold event to show that they are standing by the thousands of families dealing with childhood cancer every year.

Down Council chairman, councillor William Walker, said the council was happy to play its part.

“We were really excited to go gold for CLIC Sargent,” he said.

“Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a fantastic opportunity to show we are standing by children with cancer, and their families.”

Fiona McCann, local CLIC Sargent fundraising manager, said: “We’re so pleased Down District Council went gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

“Every month thousands of families hear the devastating news their child has cancer and CLIC Sargent is here to provide vital practical, emotional and financial support from diagnosis onwards.

“Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a great opportunity for schools, businesses, universities and communities to show they are standing by children with cancer.”
