THE Cancer Fund for Children is appealing to local beauty therapists to consider giving some of their time to Daisy Lodge, which offers short breaks to families affected by cancer.
They are hoping local beauticians will offer to come to the lodge at weekends or for a few hours during the week to provide treatment to parents who face the pressure of looking after children suffering from cancer.
The charity is specifically looking for volunteers who are professional, compassionate and have great interpersonal skills.
Fiona Brown, who has nursed a child with cancer, said she personally experienced the important role holistic and beauty treatments during the cancer journey.
“I attended a recent Cancer Fund for Children Mums and Chums weekend in Daisy Lodge and it involved complementary therapies and staff from Clarins doing makeovers,” she said.
“It was like being transported to a world of total relaxation where I had time out for myself.
“In the midst of caring for a child with cancer our needs are way down the list of priorities.
“The therapeutic effect of resting up and being pampered is such a treat. “If there are any beauticians out there willing to volunteer for Cancer Fund for Children I know many mums including myself who would just love this wee treat.
“It’s hard to put into words our gratitude to anyone who helps us in any way in the cancer journey.”
Anyone who is interested in this volunteer role is encouraged to contact the charity’s therapeutic services manager, Phil Alexander on 028 43 724 212 or email phil@cancerfundforchildren.com.
