ASSUMPTION Grammar School principal, Mr Paul McBride, is leaving the school after six years at the helm.

Mr. McBride announced his decision to staff last week, confirming that he has been offered the principalship of St. Malachy’s College in Belfast.

He is expected to remain at the Ballynahinch grammar school until the end of the academic term, pending the appointment of his replacement.

The move brings to an end his six year leadership of the school, which included the launch of its new multi-million pound complex just last month.

Mr. McBride was the first male principal of the all-girls school, taking over from the school’s first lay principal, Mrs. Sheila Crea, in August 2008.
